This week, we continued our Artist Copy Drawings. I used Conte pencil to complete the marks on the figure's legs. It was a meticulous process, but after a lot of trial and error I discovered how to replicate Raphael's mark. One of the main things I learned was that he made very parallel marks and used length and frequency of his lines to create depth.

This week, we are starting our copies of figure drawings from famous artists. I have chosen "Study of the Alba Madonna" by Raphael. This week, we used the grid method to scale up our chosen pieces, then created a contour of our figures.

This week, we worked with guest artist Tommy van Auken (a big shoutout to Mr. van Auken for the lessons!) on figure drawing. It was a rough start, but as time progressed our class started to get the hang of it. One big thing we learned was to stop looking at the outlines of figures, but instead look at how the figure is built from the inside out. Additionally, we worked on observing and using weight, lines of motion, and balance.
